Well, it has been a year in coming but I finally did it; I climbed Mount Fuji. Last weekend, starting at 5:30am on Saturday until 9pm Sunday, we traveled from Hiroshima to Mount Fuji, hiked to the top, hiked back down, and came back home, all with no sleep inbetween. Totally, totally exhausting. The hike itself took about 9 hours up and about 3 hours down. Outside of some very sore legs, I came away pretty unscathed from my biggest mountain hike yet. I'm pretty proud of it. I didn't take much pictures going up or down because to tell you the truth, there is nothing to see but endless rock and scrub. The big spectacle is viewing the sunrise from the top of the mountain. Here are my pictures. (Expect to see these in Gail's blog.)
The night is slain.
Looking down the mountain. The long line of people on the left side of the picture ar ethose that didn't make it up the mountain in time for the sunrise.
Gail at the top of Japan.
Here is the crater of Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is supposed to be an active volcano but it's last eruption was over 200 years ago.
