So I guess I volunteered to be on the teacher's softball team for Class Match. I'm getting a little ahead of myself. Class Match is a recreation day where each class faces off against the other other classes in its grade in softball and volleyball. The teachers also field a team to play against the 3rd year classes.
So, yeah, I guess I volunteered about a month ago during lunch while I was talking to one of the non-English speaking teachers. Which is okay but no one told me when this Class Match day would be. (Actually days, as it goes for two days.) So I showed up to work in my usual khakis and dress shirt and everyone else is in workout pants and the such. (A sidenote: The japanese don't seem to just wear a T-shirt and some old gym shorts. No, everyone shows up in Adidas, Nike, Under Armor, Umbro etc. All name brands and looking brand new.) Thank goodness I have locker that I keep some workout close in. (Actually I also keep a blazer, tie, and a pair of gym-use only sneakers in the locker too as the staff sometimes don't find the time to let me know when important events are going to happen.)
So besides not being so great at softball I was able to make a few hits and had an RBI. I do think I amused the staff with my chatter of "Hey batta batta!" We didn't win the tournament but we made it farther than last year. I like to think it is because I am on the team and not that this year's students aren't as good players.
